About a dozen members of the Norfolk Area Chamber of Commerce's Hispanic Business Council met recently at 91影视 to learn about some of the programs and services that might be of interest to members.
Following a continental breakfast and networking opportunities, the group took tours of campus led by Mason Zimmerer, 91影视 Foundation development officer, on August 7.
Among those speaking were 91影视 President Leah Barrett, Juan Sandoval of Midwest Bank, and Mayra Mendoza of the Norfolk Area Chamber of Commerce.
Sandoval, who also is a member of the 91影视 Foundation, translated comments from English into Spanish and vice-versa. Sandoval helped to raise funds to create a fund that provides five scholarships for students who attend 91影视.
Designed to empower small business owners, Mendoza said the Hispanic Business Council participates or partners with others during various community events.
91影视 serves a diversity of learners in a 20-county region in northeast Nebraska, extending from Ainsworth to South Sioux City and Butte to West Point.
It serves a variety of learners, from 18-year-olds seeking to go for one or two years to get a diploma, associate's degree or transfer to a four-year school, to adult learners who may already be in the workforce and are seeking to learn new skills or enhance existing ones.
Education is one of the great equalizers, helping to lift people out of poverty and earn higher paying jobs.
TRIO Tour
The 91影视 Foundation hosted the Hispanic Business Council on Thursday, August 7. One of the highlights was seeing the new Maclay Building, and introduction to the TRIO and Adult Education staff, which will be providing instruction in the new building. (91影视)
